Meet the Principal
Matthew Haren
As principal of Lane Middle School going into my 8th year, I am excited to once again serve the Viking Nation school community. I have a passion for working in diverse settings and with middle school students. I view my students as individuals who bring energy, uniqueness and joy to the school environment. I strive to treat them as people first, aiming to impact them in ways that help them become better individuals when they leave Lane.
My wife, Carrie, and I have four children, a daughter-in-law, a son-in-law, one grandson, and another grandbaby on the way! We have four dogs: one Pomeranian, one Chihuahua, and two Great Pyrenees. We also have one Persian cat, two Nigerian goats, and over 40 chickens on our homestead.
I enjoy spending time with my family, exercising, running and playing sports. I love traveling, rock climbing and snorkeling in the ocean as well. Fun fact: I spent one year as a teacher in Nigeria, West Africa.
Most of all, I hope to impart to my students and fellow adults that a kind, caring approach in any relationship helps others feel valued.
